A recognized legal services organization is currently seeking a Spanish-speaking professional to join their staff as their new Paralegal I.
About the Opportunity:
- Alternate base sites in Kew Gardens or Jamaica; occasional travel between sites
Responsibilities:
The Paralegal I will:
- Perform receptionist work, as needed
- Answer switchboard and provide data entry support
- Go out in the field (post office, government agencies for checks, clients to drop off documents, etc.)
- Complete data entry, create PDFs, and upload documents into our database
- Answer client telephone inquiries and basic correspondence
- Interact with clients and assist clients in completing forms and releases
- Handle intakes from members of the public who contact the office requesting legal assistance
- Generate daily, weekly and monthly reports from various databases as needed
- Copy court and office files upon request
- Perform other duties, an needed
Qualifications:
- 1+ years of related work experience
- High School Diploma / GED
- Bilingual (English and Spanish)
- Computer savvy and Data Entry skills
- Microsoft Office proficient (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.)
- Ability to learn and efficiently use new systems
- Great interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team
Desired Skills:
- 1 year of experience in a Legal or other relevant work (paid or unpaid) environment
- Some relevant College-level work and/or Paralegal training
